Question: Who is Oyeniyi Stephen Ajiboye?

OYENIYI AJIBOYE: The Profile of Patriot
..............................................................................................................

OYENIYI AJIBOYE is a man who has transversed the uphills of life, leaving his marks wherever his work and career take him. He was born in Isanlu-Isin in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State on January 31 1950.

Oyeniyi had his early education in the Baptist Primary School and the Igbomina Baptist Grammar School (IBGS, now Baptist Grammar School), Isanlu Isin for his primary and secondary education respectively, and went to the famous Titcombe College, Egbe, for his Higher School Certificate (HSC). Before he proceeded for further studies, Niyi had a four-month teaching stint at the Ansarul-Islam Secondary School, Ijomu-Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area, and the Kwara State Ministry of Agriculture as a Co-operative Inspector. He was transferred to New Bussa as the Area Co-operative Inspector where he was actively engaged in organizing farmers and fishermen into Co-operative Societies. In 1973 he was sent  to the Kaduna Polytechnic by the Kwara State Government for a one-year Certificate course in Co-operative Studies. On successfully completing the course, he returned to New Bussa where he later joined Kainji Lake Research Project as an Accounts Officer.

In quest of further education and sound knowledge, in 1977, Oyeniyi Ajiboye travelled to the United Kingdom studied in Huddersfield University, Yorkshire and returned to the country in January 1980, enrolled for National Youth Service Corps in the same month (as "Irregular Corper" as there was no "Batch A, B, or C then), posted to Ogun State, and did his primary assignment at Idi-Aba Baptist Girls High School, Abeokuta where he was a pioneer Corper. At the conclusion of his service in December 1980, he joined The Federal Polytechnic, Bida, as an Assistant Lecturer. According to him, he loved teaching and would have remained in teaching line but, to his chagrin, he came to a conclusion that the whole academic environment in the country was in shambles and the much touted "Academic Freedom" was a ruse. He therefore opted out of teaching line after rising to the Lecturer ll and joined the Federal Capital Development Authority, Abuja, in September 1983.

Ironically, he was posted to join a team that was assigned the planning of the proposed Technical College, Orozo, Abuja, served as the Secretary of the FCT Technical Committee on the Implementation of the 6-3-3-4 National Policy on Education, and eventually became the Vice Principal (Administration) of the Orozo Technical College. In 1988, he went to the Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, United States of America, where he obtained a B.Sc and MA in Technical Education (Business), returned to Nigeria in 1990 and back to FCDA, Abuja, as the Head of Business Education Division of the Authority.

Not satisfied with the level of activities in a typical civil service setting (Niyi felt he was underutilized) he sought and obtained transfer to the National Assembly in 1992 where he worked in various capacities until 2006 when he became the Clerk, House of Representatives, a position he held till his retirement on January 31, 2010.

In August 2007, the Kabiyesi Onipee of Ipeeland, His Royal Higness Oba Mufutau Adebayo Lawal (Titiloye III) bestowed on Oyeniyi Ajiboye the Honourary Chieftaincy Title of OTUNBA of Ipeeland.

He is widely travelled both for quest for educational knowledge and on the job training, Conferences and Seminars, acquiring tremendous experience in Legislative Practices and Procedures. He is married with children.
